Top 10 Traveller’s Choice in New Zealand

This is a big moment for us. Not just because we’re regional, or independent. But because it means we’re doing things right. And that’s the best reward for effort we could want.

Little things make big things happen

Taking care of the small stuff, the details, has made the big things – our guests, our staff, our hotel, our apartments – the talk of the town. Traveller’s Choice Awards are quite different than an industry accolade. They come from the people who have experienced each establishment first-hand. Making them even more special to us.

Like most success stories, ‘belief’ is where it began

Stepping back, it really began with our belief in the appeal of the Waikato region, and the newly created Lakewood hub in Cambridge, to take the focus of hotel excellence away from just the inner city and show visitors a different side of New Zealand. Judging by the reviews that drive these awards, Hidden Lake’s location features highly in that.

Beautiful on the inside

While the hotel is built to take advantage of its lakeside setting, it’s the attention to detail inside that complements that. Luxury fittings, generous desk spaces, lumbar support chairs, walk-in showers and some standalone baths are welcome and sometimes unexpected additions to the comfort level. We’re proud of the abundance of regional produce in the Waikato, some of which you’ll find in our restaurant. Even the in-room teas are from Hamilton’s Zealong Tea Estate, the only one of its kind in New Zealand. Apartments are self-contained, all rooms and apartments are non-smoking, and as an added safety measure, secured above-ground. Park your car in a well-lit parking area or store your bike in a secure purpose-built space.

Mesmerising on the outside

The breathtaking landscapes of the central north island of New Zealand are well-known for the produce, the wineries, and the attractions that live here. The area is often referred to as the “Home of Champions” due to its association with thoroughbred horses, rowing, cycling and equestrian sports. Cambridge is known as the “Town of Trees”, with an enviable commitment to its natural environment. The Cambridge Tree Trust cares for thousands of trees in the region, voluntarily and with great pride in the region’s botanical heritage. The area has numerous walkways one of which leads right up to the hotel’s front door.

Food that showcases New Zealand

Our restaurant – D’Arcy’s Garden Restaurant, Club Lounge & Bar – takes its name from one of Cambridge’s best loved organic gardeners and features produce that is local, regional, and national. Wherever the best that New Zealand produces can be found, meaning the quality and freshness is second to none.

Thank you to the travellers, the comfort seekers and adventure lovers

It’s because of you that the Traveller’s Choice awards exist to point others in the right direction and diversify an industry that has so much more to offer, off the beaten track.
